With Ross Ozarka
How did this film come together?
We made this film for New Zealand's 48 Hour Film Festival. We made it in 48 Hours and 1 minute-- so it got disqualified! However, we thought it was good so we've been sending it to the most prestigious film festivals around the world, the most prestigious of which is this one!
Did anything unexpected happen as you were making this film?
Yes, halfway through making it I remembered it was my friend Jakes birthday party. I went there and spent six hours researching the smoking of marijuana to ensure it was portrayed accurately in the film. This may have contributed to missing the film's completion deadline.
What's the best filmmaking advice you've ever received?
I am still waiting for someone to give me good advice. I just make stuff, show it to people, and see if they laugh. Then I make another film!
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Women who have just given birth will sometimes eat their own placenta, believing it to be an Ancient Greek tradition. However, the ancient Greeks never practiced this: the human placenta is named after the ancestor of the cheesecake. This is an example of modern cannibalism.
