Did anything unexpected happen as you were making this film?
J'ai eu le bonheur de tourner lors de 2 tempêtes hivernales sur 2 années différentes. Le froid intense et le vent ont permis une authenticité innoubliable. Les 2 interprètes ont dansées à -33 celsius. Lors du premier tournage nous avons été choyé d'avoir des glaces sur le fleuve St-Laurent.
I had the joy of filming during 2 winter storms over 2 different years. The intense cold and wind allowed for unforgettable authenticity. The 2 performers danced at -33 Celsius. During the first shoot we were blessed to have ice on the St. Lawrence River.
What's the best filmmaking advice you've ever received?
La caméra peut tout de donner. Étant habitué de travailler mes chorégraphies de manière conventionnelle, j'ai appris en réalisant la beauté des possibilités qu'offre la caméra. Je ne travaille plus de la même manière et la perception de la lumière a complètement fait évoluer mon regard sur la beauté du monde.
The camera can give everything. Being used to working my choreographies in a conventional manner, I learned while directing the beauty of the possibilities that the camera offers. I no longer work in the same way and the perception of light has completely evolved my view of the beauty of the world.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
La danse et la nature sont pour moi une manière de vivre, de réfléchir et d'assumer d'ou je viens et qui je suis maintenant après un parcours assez inusité. J'ai la chance d'habiter un lieu de prédilection, de vivre au et avec ce majesteux fleuve. Il m'a permi de me définir, d'apprivoiser mes peurs d'enfants et d'être témoin et de mieux apprivoiser et comprendre mon passage. Une traversée symbolique comme ce que les animaix et la nature nous offre.
Dance and nature are for me a way of living, of reflecting and of accepting where I come from and who I am now after a rather unusual journey. I have the chance to live in a place of predilection, to live by and with this majestic river. It has allowed me to define myself, to tame my childhood fears and to be a witness and to better tame and understand my passage. A symbolic crossing like what animals and nature offer us.
